PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge device and an image reader provided with the same with which the same initial closing operation can be maintained without clicks in operation for closing an opening/closing target such as automatic sheet feeder even when changes occur on the initial stage of a buffering member such as spring or settling or the like is generated by long-time continuous use. SOLUTION: In a configuration to open/close an ADF1 by abutting an abutting part 87a of a housing 87 of a compression spring 85 with which one terminal is attached to the side of the ADF1 onto a cam face 86a of a cam member 86 attached to the side of a reader part 10 while sliding, the rotational moment of the ADF1 is unbalanced with a rotational moment by the compression spring 85 and on the cam face 86a close to an angle to start falling without external force by gravity of the ADF1, a projection 86b is provided for suppressing the fall of the ADF1.
