The method involves serial transmission of messages for control and/or monitoring of switching functions of a telecommunications station over a telecommunications channel. The messages are transmitted over a number of telecommunications channels as a type of parallel transmission by a distribution unit in a telecommunications station (4) and/or a data processing station (2) connected to it via telecommunications channels. AN Independent claim is also included for a telecommunications system for implementing the method.
