PURPOSE: A cathode ray tube is provided to achieve improved explosion-proof performance even without using an explosion-proof film and increasing the thickness of the CRT. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube comprises a panel(10) for displaying images; a funnel attached to the rear surface of the panel; a neck(40) attached to the rear surface of the funnel; and an explosion-proof shield plate(30) interposed between the panel and the funnel so as to block the impact transmitted from the panel. The explosion-proof shield plate is a metal plate having a coefficient of thermal expansion same as the coefficient of thermal expansion of the panel, funnel and a molten glass for bonding the panel and the funnel.
