PURPOSE: A variable valve timing adjusting apparatus is provided to properly adjust a valve timing of an engine by adjusting a trace of a chain, which connects a crank shaft gear to a cam gear. CONSTITUTION: A variable valve timing adjusting apparatus includes a crank shaft gear(10) and a chain(30). The chain(30) is arranged around an outer peripheral portion of the crank shaft gear(10) so as to transfer power to an intake cam gear(20) and an exhaust cam gear(22). A first idle gear(40) is formed at an outer portion of a trace of the chain(30) connecting the crank shaft gear(10) to the intake cam gear(20), and a second idle gear(50) is formed at an outer portion of the chain(30) connecting the crank shaft gear(10) to an exhaust cam gear(22). Center shafts(41,51) of the first and second idle gears(40,50) are supported by an actuating member(60). A guide(62) is provided to prevent the actuating member(60) from being separated from a moving route. A cylinder(70) is installed at one side of the actuating member(60) and a rod(72) is provided between the actuating member(60) and a piston(71) of the cylinder(70).
