A method and apparatus for measuring and sorting parcels (200), including th e concept of determining at least one component of the gravity center (CG) of said parcels (200). Determination of the gravity center (CG) component includes the use of a tilting action (30) in combination with the use of sensors (31-34) to sense the movement of the parcels (200) as they tilt. Another concept includes the use of sensors (31-34) to determine whether a parcel is sufficiently rigid (200) to provide a tilting action, or whether t he parcel is flexible (500) and thus does not provide a tilting action so much as it provides a flexing action over the pivot point (25).
