PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for detecting a vehicle speed controller are provided to compensate for the amount of fuel to be injected by detecting the vehicle speed through a controller area network communication. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle speed detecting apparatus includes an engine control unit(310) for controlling an engine of a vehicle, a first vehicle speed sensor(320), a body control module(330) and a second vehicle speed sensor(340). The first vehicle speed sensor(320) detects a vehicle speed and inputs an electric signal to the engine control unit(310). The body control module(330) is connected to the engine control unit(310) in order to communicate data information regarding the vehicle speed. The second vehicle speed sensor(340) is positioned separated from the first vehicle speed sensor(320) in order to detect the vehicle speed. The second vehicle speed sensor(340) inputs an electric signal to the body control module(330).
