Computer-based planning of control systems for industrial plant, whereby the I/O channels are automatically assigned to suitable I/O cards and pricing optimized using an interactive process

Method for computer based planning of a control system, whereby an automatic and optimized assignment of process signal conducting connections to one or more channel I/O cards is undertaken. According to the method the physical characteristics of the process connections are compared with the available I/O cards, the individual process connections are assigned to determined I/O cards, with the minimum cost card being selected. The sum of all the selected I/O cards is totaled and an iterative process followed whereby cards are changed for lower price cards until a requirement is reached for a given cost.
