The steering column (1) is adjustable and can be fixed by a clamping mechanism whose clamping lever (25) has a lever part (26) and a bearing part (27) for receiving the lever part. A rip mechanism (32) is provided between the bearing part and lever part. The clamping lever can be mounted to pivot about a bearing axis (14). The rip mechanism can be formed as projections (32) aligned radially in different directions on the bearing part to engage axially behind the lever part.
