The bushing (21) is in the form of a cup of ceramic material which has low light absorption and is permeable to light of the wave length used. This forms a tight seal with a hole in a copper contact (16) for transmission of light. An optical fibre (14) with a metallic guide (15) is inserted in the bushing cup.
