Bistatic radar system has multiple transmitters and receivers for transmission and receipt of radar signals, whereby at least one transmitter is positioned in a location separate from a receiver and whereby each transmitter and receiver contains an oscillator, that is locked to a GPS signal so that coherence is maintained between transmitters and receivers. An Independent claim is made for a method for capturing the surface current vectors of water bodies, such as the sea, lakes or rivers, whereby a radar system is used with multiple transmitters and receivers.
