The present invention relates to a method for a sustained treatment and/or prophylaxis of neuropathic pain in mammal comprising administering by peripheral nerve injection a neuropathic pain relieving composition comprising an alpha-2-adrenergic agonist.The invention further relates to the use of an alpha-2-adrenergic agonist for the preparation of an injectable medicament for the sustained treatment and/or prophylaxis of neuropathic pain in mammal by peripheral nerve block.
