PURPOSE: An inverter for a cold CRT is provided to simplify the circuit configuration of the inverter and reduce manufacturing costs by driving the piezo-electric transformer by using an organic voltage of the piezo-electric transformer. CONSTITUTION: An inverter comprises a piezo-electric transformer(4); a choke coil(3) connected to an input terminal of the piezo-electric transformer; a MOS-FET(2) connected to the line connecting the piezo-electric transformer and the choke coil; a cold CRT(5) connected to an output terminal of the piezo-electric transformer; and a comparator(110) having an input terminal connected to the output terminal of the piezo-electric transformer, the other input terminal connected to a reference voltage terminal for supplying a reference voltage of a predetermined level DC voltage, and an output terminal connected to a gate of the MOS-FET. The comparator compares the sine wave signal output from the piezo-electric transformer with a reference signal, and outputs pulse type signals in accordance with the result of the comparison.
