A magnesium alloy pressure casting, produced from a magnesium alloy able to form a dendritic primary phase, has a microstructure characterised by fine primary particles in a matrix of secondary phase. The primary particles are of a form from the group consisting of rounded, spheroidal, degenerate dendritic and mixtures thereof, and are evenly distributed, while the primary particles may be substantially less than 40 mu m in size, such as about 10 mu m or less. The microstructure is able to exhibit alloy element separation for elements differing sufficiently in density. |
