The active overvoltage protection circuit has an overvoltage detection circuit (17,22,32) for detecting an excessive voltage applied to a connection contact (1) and a switch component (35) that is through connected by the detection circuit when it detects an excessive voltage so as to feed the applied excessive voltage to a reference potential. The switch component is a transistor whose control connection is driven by the detection circuit.
