The system for compensating for transverse forces on a McPherson strut comprises a cap (11), to which the lower end of the bellows (14) is attached. This has a curved upper surface (A) on one side which acts as a guide for the rolling lobe on that side. The lobe on the other side rolls freely, without contact with the cap surface (B), so that the lobes on each side have different widths.
