Chain for lifting tackle has chain links which have flattened zone in region of their long arms linked by arcs

The chain is made from round or D-section steel strip in the form of oval links. The links (1, 2) have flattened zones in the region of their long arms, which are linked by arcs. These zones are created by local plastic deformation to alter the initial cross section of the links in these zones. The long arms of every other link may have a flattened zone perpendicular to a plane through the centers of both of them.
