PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device easily and continuously controlling color temperature of the image being of small circuit dimension and low-cost. SOLUTION: An image display device 1 is provided with an image generating part 20 forming an optical image and an optical filter 10 controlling the color temperature of the optical image on transmission of the formed optical image. The optical filter 10 has at least one liquid crystal cell 11a, 11b provided with a liquid crystal 13 containing a dichroic dye 12 with different spectroscopic absorption characteristics corresponding to a wavelength region of the optical image and molecular arrangement and transparent substrates 14 with attached transparent electrodes 15 disposed parallel to each other so as to sandwich the liquid crystal 13. The molecular arrangement of the dichroic dye 12 is varied corresponding to a driving voltage applied to the transparent electrodes 15.
