PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make small the elevator shaft for an elevator car provided with a car-side door receptacle without reducing the car volume and to improve assembling efficiency by reducing the number of parts used in the jamb section. SOLUTION: An elevator car 3 capable of traveling up and down is provided in an elevator shaft 2 built in a building frame 1. A car-side door 5 for opening and closing the car opening 4 of the elevator car 3 is supported by and runs freely on a car-side door frame 9 provided with a crosshead 6, a plank 7, and left-hand and right-hand stiles 8a and 8b. The receptacle-side stile 8a of the car-side door frame 9 eliminates the need of the end panel in the direction of the car-side door 5 as it is full open. The rear edge c of the receptacle-side stile 8a is positioned nearer to the car opening 4 than to the rear edge 5a of the car-side door 5 as it is open.
