PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for olefin polymerization that can give olefin polymer in high yield, particularly can give propylene polymer in high yield, as the high stereoregularity is retained, with an extremely high response to hydrogen. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises the following components (A) through (c): (A) the solid catalyst component formed from (a) a magnesium compound, (b) titanium tetrachloride and (c) a phthalic diester derivative represented by general formula (1); (B) an organoaluminum compound; and (C) a halogen-containing organosilicon compound.
