PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material-testing machine for preventing a concrete material from being exploded when performing the compression test of a test piece such as the concrete material. SOLUTION: In the testing machine for performing the compression testing of a test piece TP such as a concrete material between a table 5 and a lower cross head 12 by allowing a ram to advance from a hydraulic cylinder 3, tensile springs S1 and S2 are extended via a hook between a bed 1 where the cross head is fixed and the table 5. At the same time, means 21 and 24 for subtracting the elastic force of the tensile springs S1 and S2 from a load value are provided, thus preventing the concrete material from being exploded in a compression test, and hence accurately measuring a load since inhibition force due to the output of a displacement meter 24 of the tensile spring S1 is subtracted from a load value by a calculator 21.
