PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed meter 1 of an excellent appearance having new visibility, by arranging a shutter 20 of a light transmittance-variable member having a plurality of light transmittance-variable parts in a reverse side of a display panel 10 in the speed meter 1 of a measuring instrument for a vehicle, and by controlling light transmittance thereof. SOLUTION: This instrument is arranged, in the reverse face side of the display panel 10, with the shutter 20 provided with dimming films 21a-21t of the light transmittance-variable parts for regulating individually light energy of light, emitted by an LED 8, incident on scale parts 11a-11t of the display panel 10 and numeral parts 12a-12j thereof, so as to control an impressed voltage to the dimming films 21a-21t while interlocked with a turning position of a pointer needle 6b, that is, the light transmittance, by a controller 30. The scale part or the scale part and the numeral part indicated by the needle 6b is/are thereby displayed to get light compared with the other scale parts or the other scale parts and the numeral parts, so as to make a vehicle speed confirmed surely by the driver, and the speed meter 1 of the excellent appearance having the new visibility is realized thereby.
