PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the major social problem that untreatable tires are open-air stored or illegally dumped in relation to the annual consumption of automobile tires. SOLUTION: Tires T are thermally decomposed by heating them at a high temperature while they are held under a condition where an air flow is intercepted and the carbide W obtained by the thermal decomposition is recovered for recycle through sorting, etc. In addition, the exhaust gas generated when the tires T are thermally decomposed is discharged into the atmosphere after the gas is made to be harmless through secondary combustion. Consequently, the tires T can be treated inexpensively and highly efficiently without generating smoke, soot, hazardous materials, etc. In addition, the residue obtained by such a treatment can be recycled.
