PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transfer device, by which high quality images can be obtained consecutively and running costs can be reduced. SOLUTION: The transfer operation on a card C at a transfer section is carried out through the operation of transporting an intermediate transfer sheet F toward an image forming section. After completing the transfer at the transfer section ((C), (D)), the used part F2 of the intermediate transfer sheet F is transported further to separate the card C from the intermediate transfer sheet F, so that only the used part F2 comes in contact with a heat roller 45 and the unused part F0 does not come into contact therewith ((E), (f)). As a result, the deterioration of the intermediate transfer sheet F due to heat shrinkage does not occur in the separate transportation area F3 .
