PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of evaluating paint by which the particle dispersibility, etc., in the paint used for forming each layer constituting a coated magnetic recording medium can be evaluated with higher accuracy in the state of coating at the time of evaluating the particle dispersibility, etc. SOLUTION: In this method, the particle dispersibility in the paint is evaluated by the laser light scattering method after the particles contained in the paint are dispersed by diluting the paint. The particle dispersibility is evaluated by measuring the particle size distribution in the paint by the ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopic method and the surface condition of the coating film formed of the paint is evaluated based on the evaluated dispersibility. Theζ-potential of the paint is measured by the colloid vibration current method and the surface condition of the paint film is evaluated based on the measuredζ-potential.
