<p>A warning system for warning of the approach of an object (18) along an identified path (13) to a position (15) on said path comprises means (16) for detecting the approaching object at a predetermined distance from said position (15), and means for providing a warning indication at or transmittable to said position in response to said detection. The system is suitable for use by personnel working on broken down vehicles (14) on a motorway hard shoulder, to provide warning of any other vehicle (18) that inadvertently strays from the main carriageway (12) onto the hard shoulder (13). The detecting means (16) may be a radar system, and it may be mounted on a vehicle or a portable object such as a traffic cone.</p> |
