PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make fine stratified combustion practicable even at the time of high speed rotation of engine in a cylinder injection type spark-ignition internal combustion engine which performs stratified combustion utilizing a cavity at a piston top face. SOLUTION: In the cylinder injection type spark-ignition internal combustion engine which includes an ignition plug 6 located at the upper part of a cylinder, a fuel injection valve 7 which directly injects fuel into the cylinder, and a cavity 8 formed at the piston top face deviating from the center of the piston in order to lead the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve to proximity of the ignition plug, a volume difference between spaces A, B within the cylinder is decreased, and strong air flow between two spaces within the cylinder in proximity to the compression top dead center is prevented from occurring, if it is considered that the space within the cylinder is divided into two parts, that is, a cavity deviating side and an anti-cavity deviating side by a plane P which passes through a center axis line of the ignition plug parallel to a center axis line and is perpendicular to a deviating direction Q of the cavity.
