PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal material wherein an alcohol contained in the liquid crystal material is converted into a harmless compound. SOLUTION: The alcohol in the liquid crystal material is caught in the form of a urethane compound or an ester compound with a compound which is selected from the group consisting of isocyanate compounds and acid anhydrides and is mixed with the liquid crystal material. Further, a compound selected from alkoxide compounds and their analogues is added to catch water in the liquid crystal material in the form of a metal hydroxide.
