1306791 Iron/chromium alloys E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 8 Jan 1971 [9 Jan 1970] 1056/71 Addition to 1183656 Heading C7A An iron/ chromium alloy comprises 28-35 wt. per cent Cr, up to 1 wt. percent Si, up to 1À5 wt. per cent Mn, the balance being iron, carbon and nitrogen, the maximum of the sum of the carbon and nitrogen contents varying linearly from 116 p. p. m at 28 wt. per cent Cr content to 10 p. p. m. at 35 wt. per cent Cr content. The alloy possesses good post-weld ductility. Samples of the alloy having Cr, C and N contents within the above ranges and having 1% Si and 1À5% Mn contents were tested for corrosion resistance by first rolling at 2300‹C. and annealing at 850‹C. for 30 minutes, then simulating a weld by striking an electric arc to the centre of alloy contained in a water-cooled copper crucible . Similar tests were carried out on samples of alloys with C+N content 116-253 p.p.m. |
