PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical melting furnace that can smoothly produce and discharge a melt without excessively raising temperatures in the vicinities of tuyeres by increasing the consumption of fuel, such as the coke, etc., or oxygen. SOLUTION: This vertical melting furnace has a plurality of tuyeres 16 provided in the peripheral direction in its lower part and a melt drain port 15 provided near its bottom section. The tuyeres 16 are arranged in a state where the interval between the tuyeres 16a and 16b adjoining each other on both sides of the drain hole 15 is made narrower than those between the other adjacent tuyeres.
