PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooking apparatus which sufficiently heats an object to be cooked, appropriately heats the surface of the object, and shortens heating time. SOLUTION: A microwave oven 1 is provided with a heating chamber 10, a heating plate 11 for locating food thereon which is disposed in the heating chamber 10, an upper heater 13 disposed above the heating chamber 10, and a heater unit 140 which is disposed at the rear of the chamber and accommodated with a rear heater 14 and a fan 14a arranged above the rear heater 14. The food on the heating plate 11 is heated (as shown by arrows X3-X5) from above by the upper heater 13, and heated (as shown by arrows X1, X2) from beneath by the rear heater 14. The output of the rear heater 14 is 400 W, for instance, and the output of the upper heater 13 is higher than that of the rear heater 14, 900 W for instance. Specifically, for a household use, the upper heater 13 and the rear heater 14 are allowed to simultaneously perform heating.
