PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock for a sliding door, which is simple in structure, low in cost, excellent in strength, correct and smooth in operation, has component members being commonly applicable to a lock with a large backset, and copes with the mounting tolerance of a bracket. SOLUTION: According to the lock for the sliding door, an inner surface of each of side plates 3 of a lock case 1 has a guiding long groove 7 formed therein, which extends from the rear to the front of each side plate and then is curved upward or downward at its front portion. A hook member 8 has a rearward extending horizontal portion 10 at its rear end, which has a guiding pin 11 at its center portion and a connecting pin 12 at a location near a rear end thereof. Then, both the pins are engaged with the guiding long groove, and the connecting pin is connected to a hub 5. When the lock for the sliding door is applied to the lock case having a large backset, the hook member 8 per se is the same as in the lock case having the ordinary backset, and an auxiliary plate is axially supported by the connecting pin 12 at the rear portion of the horizontal portion, in a rotatable manner, which is connected to the hub by a second connecting pin arranged at a rear portion of the auxiliary plate. The other component members are the same as in the lock case having the ordinary backset.
