PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc oxide-based sintered compact, which can be industrially manufactured to a zinc oxide varistor, which has a low transient buildup voltage, and which is highly reliable to direct current/alternate current load and surge load and stable to heat treatment, by firing at 800-1,100 deg.C, especially at a low temperature of 1,000 deg.C or lower. SOLUTION: The zinc oxide-based sintered compact contains bismuth oxide of 0.3-7.5 pts.wt., antimony oxide of 0.2-5.0 pts.wt., rare-earth oxides of 0.1-1.5 pts.wt., 1 to 3 kinds of iron series oxides selected from among cobalt oxide, manganese oxide and nickel oxide of 0.1-7.0 pts.wt., chromium oxide of 0.1-1.5 pts.wt., boron oxide of 0.05-1.0 pts.wt., and aluminium oxide of 0.00001-0.05 pts.wt. to zinc oxide of 100 pts.wt. |
