PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition excellent in rust proofness and water resistance and curing property, drying property and appearance of coated film and coating workability and coating stability and particularly, provide an aqueous coating composition having sufficient rust-proofness in an environment-corresponding type coating not containing lead-based or chromium-based pigment. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating composition comprises (1) a modified epoxy ester obtained by reacting (B) 60-20 wt.%α,β-ethylenic unsaturated monomer containingα,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of (A) 40-80 wt.% an epoxy ester obtained by reacting an epoxy group and other functional group of epoxy resin with an unsaturated fatty acid and (2) a drying oil and/or a semidrying oil.
