PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apparently increase the number of pixels of an image display element and to dissolve a color shift caused by deviation of transmitted and deflected light quantity produced by the difference in color of the pixels. SOLUTION: Light emitted from a white lamp 121, which is a light source, controlled by a light source driving means 111 turns into uniformized illumination light by a diffusion plate 122 and critically illuminates a transmissive liquid crystal light valve 124 which is a picture display element through a condenser light lens 123. The image of the illumination light spatially light-modulated by the transmissive liquid crystal light valve 124 is maginied by a projection lens 126 and projected on a screen 127. In this case, the image light is shifted by an arbitrary distance in a pixel aligning direction by control of a voltage applied to an optical path deflecting element 125 arranged in the rear of the transmissive liquid crystal light valve 124, using an optical path deflecting voltage controlling means 113. |
