PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coal tar purification, with which centrifugal separators do not cause clogging when the centrifugal separators are arranged in series, the removal ratio of sludge is higher than that of the conventional method and stable operation can be carried out. SOLUTION: In this method for coal tar purification in which coal tar is fed to n centrifugal separators arranged in series and tar sludge of impurities is separated and removed from the coal tar, each centrifugal separator is equipped with an outer cylinder fixed to a revolving shaft and a discharging means for the tar sludge which is arranged inside the outer cylinder and is rotated at a velocity different from that of the outer cylinder. The centrifugal separators are operated under conditions of F1 <F2 <F...<Fn (1) andΔR1 <ΔR2 <...<ΔRn (2) (Fn is centrifugal force of n-th centrifugal separator;ΔRn is difference between the number of revolutions of the outer cylinder in the n-th centrifugal separator and the number of revolutions of the discharging means.
