PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve security when the hour of use of an apparatus exceeds a predetermined hour by preponderantly monitoring an abnormal temperature rise on the basis of a simplified technique which considers such a case that the deterioration of the fixing unit is developing. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with two resistance value detecting means connected to a second temperature detecting means in order to detect different abnormalities, and a means to count the hour of use of the apparatus. The image forming apparatus is further provided with an adding means to add a parametric value for determining one of the outputs of a switching means outputted so as to connect the second temperature detecting means to one of the two resistance value detecting means when the counted hour of use exceeds a predetermined value.
