PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemical substance to be served as a highly sensitive sensor because of causing dark red-orange red color change concurrently causing near-infrared red color change for luminescence on reversibly adsorbing/ desorbing acetonitrile or ethanol vapor so as to enable visibly effective luminescence ON/OFF to be observed. SOLUTION: This chemical substance is a multinuclear platinum (II) complex of the formula: [Pt2 (L)2 (bpy)2 ]X2 or [Pt2 (L)2 (bpy)2 ]Y (where, L is a crosslinked ligand; bpy denotes 2,2'-bipyridine; X is a monovalent anion; and Y is a bivalent anion), wherein the two crosslinked ligands (L) are each of such syn-type as to be configured via S to one of the Pt ions and via N to the other.
