Bevel adjustment mechanism for a compound miter saw

A compound miter saw (10) having a bevel adjustment mechanism (40) for adjusting the angle of inclination of a cutting disk (32) relative to a top surface of a turntable (14). The bevel adjustment mechanism (40) includes a first knuckle (44) for adjusting the angle of inclination of the cutting disk (32) about a tilt axis (48) and a second knuckle (50) for adjusting the upward and downward movement of the cutting disk (32). The first knuckle (44) includes a fixed portion (80) mounted adjacent the outer periphery of the turntable (14) and a rotating portion (84) cooperating with the fixed portion (80). A scale (102) and indicator (104) are provided on the fixed (80) and rotating (84) portions to measure the angle of inclination of the saw assembly (46) relative to the tilt axis (48). A locking mechanism (92) secures the rotating portion (84) to the fixed portion (80) to secure the saw (32) in a cutting position.
