An automatic sticker placing apparatus for use with a lumber stacker allows transferring of a row of parallel stickers positioned on the conveyor surface of a sticker distribution apparatus to a stack of lumber, as provided by a conventional lumber stacker. The sticker placing apparatus comprises a frame, to be positioned between the sticker distribution apparatus and the lumber stacker, and a series of grips pivotally mounted to the frame via a shaft. The shaft is mounted to the frame so as to allow it to shift in a direction perpendicular to the shaft. In operation, each of the grips closes on a facing sticker, the shaft pivots th e grips and therefore the sticker over the frame, and then the grips open and release the sticker on the stack.
