COMBINATORIAL STRATEGY FOR POLYMER SYNTHESIS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method and an apparatus for synthesizing a high- density array of diverse polymer sequences such as diverse peptides and diverse oligonucleotides. SOLUTION: A substrate 401 is brought into contact with a channel block 407 having channels 409 according to a preferred embodiment. A selected reagent is delivered through the channels 409 and the substrate 401 is rotated by a rotating stage 403. The process is repeated to form an array of polymers on the substrate 401. The method may be combined with a light-directed method. In particular, the polymers are oligonucleotides and peptides.
