The invention relates to a method for protecting built-in components against the jet of a medium (M) arising from a leak in a line (1). In a first embodiment, a deflecting plate (4) is arranged to plug a possible leak (2) and at least two interspaced line positioning elements (6) are placed above the possible leak (2). The positioning elements (6) are connected to each other by the deflecting plate in non-positive fit. In a second embodiment, positioning elements (6) are placed on the line on both sides of the possible leak (2) and a deflecting plate is arranged to plug the possible leak (2). The deflecting plate (4) is connected to the line by a retaining device to prevent an increase in the distance between the line positioning elements (6) deviating from normal operational mode or exceeding a value which can be predetermined.
