摘要 PURPOSE: A blood pressure measurement apparatus and a method are provided to achieve improved accuracy of measurement of blood pressure and improved user convenience by eliminating the necessity of taking off the user's cloth for measurement. CONSTITUTION: A blood pressure measurement apparatus comprises a compression unit(40) wrapping around a predetermined part of a user, and which expands or contracts; an air pump(52) for injecting air into the compression unit in response to a first control signal; a pressure sensor(42) for sensing the pressure of the compression unit and outputting the sensed result; an analog/digital converter(44) for converting the sensed result into a digital form, and outputting the result of conversion in a pressure signal; a control unit(46) for calculating blood pressure of the user by calculating the current pressure of the compression unit from the pressure signal, and the linear pressure of the compression unit, generating the first control signal in response to the current pressure, and generating a second control signal from the result of comparison between the current pressure and the linear pressure; a digital/analog converter(48) for converting the second control signal into an analog form, and outputting the result of conversion in an air evacuation control signal; and a proportional control valve(50) for evacuating air from the compression unit in response to the air evacuation control signal.
