PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dishwasher, which judges an overflow state even during the process of defoaming and takes a counter measurement for overflowing in an earlier stage and hence enhances safety. SOLUTION: A controlling means 23 operates a defoaming process in which a drainage pump 10 is intermittently driven for drainage of water in a washing vessel, when a foam detecting means 7 detects foams. When a water level detecting means for measuring a water level in the washing vessel detects the excess of water even after the drainage pump 10 operates in a defoaming process for a specified time, the controlling means 23 judges such a state to be an abnormal state due to overflowing.
