979,076. Differential gear. KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ. Dec. 28, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 46497/61. Heading F2D. In a driving and steering arrangement for endless track vehicles, two parallel sun-ring planet trains comprise carriers 14 respectively driving track wheels 22 through mirror-imaged bevel pairs 16, 17 and gears 19, 20; suns 11 engine-driven through a clutch 2, a multiforward and reverse speed gear 3 and, respectively, gears 5, 7 and the gear 5, a directionreversing idler 6 and a gear 8; and internallytoothed rings 12 having external teeth 23 engaged by an intermediate gear 24 and respectively by a gear 26, brakable at 34, and a gear 28 respectively clutchable at 25, 27 to contraroating meshing gears 31, 32 driven, at 33, by the main engine or a steering motor. In operation, for straight-line driving, through the reducing planet trains, the rings 12 are braked at 34 through the gearing 23, 24, 26, and the clutches 25, 27 are disengaged. For negotiating a curve, the brake 34 is released and either clutch 25 or 27 is engaged to reduce and increase the two track speeds respectively. For on-the-spot vehicle rotation the main drive is stopped and either clutch 25 or 27 is engaged to oppositely drive the two tracks at the same speed. With the clutches 25, 27 disengaged, the brake 34, pre-adjusted, may be used as a slipping safety brake to limit driving torque. Main drive brakes 35 are provided on the carriers 14. |
