PURPOSE: A person recognition apparatus is provided to acquire authentication data of a person to be authenticated when the authentication data of the person are registered as dictionary data, collate the acquired authentication data with the registered dictionary data, and to update the dictionary data in accordance with the collation result. CONSTITUTION: A dictionary registering and updating unit(4) forms new dictionary data for authentication on the basis of authentication data acquired by an authentication data input unit(3). After the dictionary data are formed by the dictionary registering and updating unit(4), an authenticating unit(2) reacquires authentication data by the authentication data input unit(3), and collates the reacquired authentication data from the authentication data input unit(3) with the dictionary data formed by the dictionary registering and updating unit(4). In a case where the collation by the authenticating unit(2) is successful, the dictionary registering and updating unit(4) updates the dictionary data by using the authentication data acquired by the authentication data input unit(3) after the dictionary data are formed by the dictionary registering and updating unit(4).
