PURPOSE: A control data upgrading system and method is provided to automatically upgrade a JAVA application, which executes control data for a household electric appliance, on a JAVA phone, which downloads the control data from a server. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises several steps. A user pushes an upgrade execution button of a JAVA phone(S1) and then the JAVA phone reads a version of a JAVA application program stored at a control data providing server(S2). The JAVA phone compares the version of the application program, stored at the server, with that of the application program, stored at a memory(S3). In a case that the version of the application program, stored at the server, is the same as that of the application program, stored at the memory, the JAVA phone outputs a message that the current version of the application program, stored at the memory is the latest(S4). But in a case that the version of the application program, stored at the server is not the same as that of the application program, stored at the memory, the JAVA phone downloads the latest version of the application program from the server(S5). The downloaded application program is overwritten over the existing application program(S6).
