PURPOSE: A system and method for checking an spark plug are provided to indirectly detect the status of the spark plug and to discriminate the abnormality by measuring the strength of a magnetic field around the spark plug. CONSTITUTION: A spark plug(2) ignites fuel injected to an engine. A current detecting unit(10) detects the current generated in the spark plug. A rotation measuring unit(30) measures the RPM(Revolution Per Minute) of the engine. A central controlling unit(20) discriminates the abnormality of the spark plug by comparing a pulse width of current and the RPM of the engine. An alarming unit(40) is operated when the central controlling unit discriminates as the spark plug is abnormal.
