PURPOSE: A charging method using inductive coupling, a handsfree device performing infrared communication and a method for controlling the same are provided to charge a battery of a portable device in the handsfree device using the inductive coupling of electromagnetic field, and to perform infrared communication between the handsfree device and the portable device so that an additional connection work or wired jacks are not required. CONSTITUTION: A portable device detector(150) detects whether a portable device(200) is installed on a cradle. A power supply(130) receives a predetermined level of AC/DC voltage inputted through a power line, to supply operation power appropriate for each unit. A constant voltage part(161) converts the AC/DC voltage from the power supply(130) into constant voltage, to output a predetermined level of voltage. A switching part(163) converts the constant voltage from the constant voltage part(161) into AC voltage when the installation of the portable device(200) on the cradle is detected by the portable device detector(150), and outputs the converted AC voltage. An induced voltage generator(165) generates an induced voltage of electromagnetic field corresponding to the current of the AC voltage outputted from the switching part(163), and applies the induced voltage to an induced voltage rectifier(251) of the portable device(200). And an infrared wireless part performs wireless communication with the portable device(200) when the installation of the portable device(200) is detected, to perform a handsfree mode.
