PURPOSE: A back up warning device of an automatic transmission vehicle is provided to prevent a collision caused when a vehicle is moved backward by a driver's mistake in a state of an obstacle alarm signal. CONSTITUTION: A back up warning device is composed of a shift lever position detector(21) detecting a position of a shift lever; an obstacle distance detector(22) detecting the distance between an obstacle and a vehicle; a warning display unit(23) warning a close state between the obstacle and the vehicle; and a back up warning controller(24) operating the warning display unit into multi-levels after comparing the distance from the obstacle with a standard distance in a back up state of the shift lever position and forcibly changing the state into a neutral state. Herein, the back up warning controller outputs the neutral state to an automatic transmission control unit(25). Therefore, the automatic transmission control unit prevents engine power from transferring to a driving shaft by operating an automatic transmission into a neutral state so that a collision is prevented.
