PURPOSE: A TFTP(Trivial File Transfer Protocol) file transfer system and a method for upgrading a software on the system are provided to make a client terminal search and download the desired software by generating a version list file consisting of a file name of the software and transferring the version list file according to an upgrade request from the client terminal. CONSTITUTION: The client terminal(20) includes an upgrade support module detecting the software file name to be upgraded from the version list file by automatically connecting to a TFTP server(30), and upgrading the software by transferring the detected software file name to the TFTP server(30). The TFTP server(30) comprises a version list file management module(31), a searching support module(32), a software download module(33) and a database(34). The version list management module(31) generates the version list file varied according to a version of each software by classifying the software stored in the database(34) into each sort, and registers the software file name by searching the corresponding version list file whenever a new software file is stored in the database(34).
